Areas of learning that can be developed

Year 1 (England and Wales) / Year P2 (Scotland) / Year 2 (Northern Ireland):

Children can develop their understanding of basic story sequence and identify features of different characters. Re-tell stories, using story language. Act out well-known stories using voices.

Year 2 (England and Wales) / Year P3 (Scotland) / Year 3 (Northern Ireland):

Children can compare story themes in different versions of traditional stories. They can develop their ability to describe and compare characters using evidence from the text. Choose what to write about, plan it and follow through. Identify main events. Predict what will happen next. Explore effects of patterns of language and repeated texts.

PSHE/PSD

Through talking about the issues in the story, the children will have the opportunity to talk about the choices they can make and to recognise the difference between right and wrong. They can also talk about how to make simple choices that will improve their health and well being, for example when deciding what to eat for breakfast.
