Trenance Infant School

At Trenance, the largest infant school in Cornwall, we pride ourselves on putting 110% into everything that we do. When we took on the challenge of collecting box tops our highly dedicated team approached the school and wider community of Newquay and they certainly responded.

Sandra Keegan our coordinator did a fantastic job motivating the pupils, staff and the wider community to search their cupboards and recycled cereal packages in the hunt for tokens. The hunt was relentless with no hotel or bed & breakfast left un-approached – but even we were amazed at the spirit in which everyone tackled the task and we were truly staggered by our final total of 24,610 tokens!

This amounted to a fantastic 1,195 books – this equates to many thousands of pounds worth of resources in our school.

As we are an infant school one of our main jobs is to develop a love of reading in all our children. The books we received from Box Tops have undoubtedly generated excitement in the pupils at Trenance and they have motivated and stimulated the children to read. Our range of books in the library and the classrooms is much enhanced and the pupil’s reading diet is certainly enriched.

We are continuing our quest this year and have even set ourselves the challenge of beating last year’s total.
